Iranian conservative MP Ali Motahari says his offices were wiretapped and illegally videotaped.

Motahari said in a statement that surveillance equipment was accidentally discovered in the air conditioning ductwork, and his own video surveillance shows that intruders have entered the premises at night.

Ali Motahari’s statement includes a reminder that wiretapping is only permitted when the judiciary has issued an official warrant.

He adds that such acts against an MP would also require the permission of the Speaker of the House, and he is certain that none of these senior officials has approved such actions.

He stresses that such acts against an MP sets a bad precedent and trigger a lack of confidence among the public.
