After a complete news blackout lasting more than a month, opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard were allowed to contact their daughter for a brief conversation in the presence of security officers.

The Kaleme website reports that Mousavi and Rahnavard were allowed to have a brief telephone exchange with their daughter, during which they told her they are not permitted to contact their other two daughters.

The opposition leaders reportedly “spoke with energetic and upbeat voices and, despite the adversity of their situation, spoke firmly and gracefully.”

Mousavi and Rahnavard have been under house arrest since February of 2011 for challenging the results of the last presidential election. Mousavi ran as a reformist candidate and was declared by supporters to be the true winner of the presidential race.
