Iran’s National Internet Development Manager has released official estimates showing that 60 percent of Iranians have become internet users, and 40 percent of those users are between the ages of 20 and 29.

On Saturday April 20, the Mehr News Agency reported on the latest statistics, indicating that of the 45 million internet users mentioned in the report, 27.5 million connect to the internet through their mobile devices.

The report also indicates that Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Yazd and Shiraz have the highest number of internet users in the country.

The rise in internet use has taken place despite widespread state censorship practices that restrict websites.

The authorities are also very strict with their approach to cybercrimes, which have been delegated to the cyber police in order to ensure that internet use complies with Islamic values.
