The Iranian president has told a U.S. daily that he is determined to reach a nuclear agreement with the West in the next three to six months.

Hassan Rohani’s statement comes hours before Iran’s meeting with the 5+1 in New York, which will be the first meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and the U.S., Mohammad Javad Zarif and John Kerry.

The Iranian president is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly meeting and, in the meantime, has given interviews to a number media outlets in the United States.

The Washington Post reports that Rohani emphasized that reaching an agreement as soon as possible is in the interest of all parties. He stated that a good time frame would be anywhere from three to six months.

The Iranian president had announced earlier that Iran's Supreme Leader has given him full authority to negotiate regarding the nuclear issues.
