Ban Ki-moon to attend NAM summit in Tehran
Ban Ki-moon will participate in the NAM summit in Tehran next week, a UN spokesman announced yesterday.
AFP reports that the United Nation’s Secretary General will discuss Iran’s Atomic program, human rights issues and the Syrian crisis in his visit to Iran.
Earlier, Israel had criticized the possibility of the Secretary General travelling to Iran. Similarly the US has expressed its opposition to such a visit while also questioning the suitability of Iran as a venue for the Non-Aligned Movement summit.
Iran has announced that so far 51 countries will attend the summit which will be held from August 26 to August 31.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps have been charged with providing security for the event while the city will have a five day holiday during this time to facilitate the security efforts.
